What to expect.

I sometimes see clients who have never had a massage in their homes before or never had a massage at all. If that’s you, and you’re wondering what to expect from a professional massage, here are some things to know before getting your first table massage.

The basics

The massage takes place on a special padded table, not on your bed or floor.

I will use your sheets, twin set preferably and 1 pillowcase. If you do not have extra sheets, I will bring them. I’ll provide a blanket or use one you have. (For prenatal massage you will need to provide 2 pillows. It’s recommended you consult your physician, and an extra release form will need your signature.

Massage preparation

I will do an intake – asking you about your physical condition and any aches, injuries, or health issues that might have caused you to book a massage. *I request a consent form for your first appointment.

I will then excuse myself to wash my hands. And to give you the opportunity to undress to your comfort level and get under the top sheet on the massage table. If you wear jewelry, ideally remove it, especially large earrings or delicate necklaces or things you don’t want lotion on.

Massage concerns

You may be concerned about privacy or being uncovered. I am extremely modest in my draping, covering your body with sheets, except for the body part being worked on. No private areas of your body will be worked on or uncovered.

It’s completely fine to talk during the massage but my style is mostly to be quiet and let you relax and zone out if desired. You can ask for more or less pressure or ask questions about what I’m doing and why.

I am a massage therapist, not masseuses or masseurs. Those terms are associated with sex work and that is not what we do.

Massage at home

My preference is to use a lotion, Bioton.  This massage lotion is applied to reduce friction. If you prefer oil or have allergies, please let us know in advance.

After the massage

At the end of the massage, I will excuse myself to wash my hands and allowing you to get up, get dressed from the table. You may wish to have a bathrobe or other easy-to-wear item handy to put on after the massage.

Once I know that you are dressed, I will break down my table and collect my things, this only takes a few minutes.

You may feel thirsty, or your nose may run after a massage. These are completely normal things. You should also feel recharged and relaxed.

Gratuities are always welcome but not required.
